Whether it's saying no to Labor's internet filter, or a resounding yes to the proposed R+ Rating for games, the Australian Sex Party firmly supports the rights of adult Australian gamers.
"Australian gamers are caught between a rock and hard-place by a combination of current censorship law and Labor's proposed filter," said Australian Sex Party convenor, Fiona Pattern.
"Games deemed suitable only for adults are automatically refused classification and banned in this country. Labor's filter will compound that ban by blocking any related web-sites."
The Australian Sex Party recognises that games, like films, are a diverse media that cater to all sorts of audiences - one of the largest audiences is adult gamers.
This year the Australian Classification Board refused classification to a record number of games because of Australia's lack of an R+ rating. Games freely available to adults in Germany, Britain and the United States are illegal in Australia.
(The Australian Sex Party is also concerned by definitions of sex and sexuality in the classification process. Sexy Poker, a Wii title, was one of the games banned this year for encouraging play with representations of cartoon breasts.)
"We need to amend the ridiculous situation in Australia where the law implies only children play games," said Ms Pattern. "Adults play games and they deserve a classification system that reflects that fact."
