According to the counsellor, below are the reasons why children need sex education. Sexuality is all around us, there is so much exposure to the topic from movies, peers, TV. If a parent doesn’t talk to children, they can be easily led astray by their peers or things they read or watch.
They need to have the right knowledge about sex. Do not use the phrase “sex is bad”, but rather “sex is good but has its own right time”. Talking to children about sex helps to curb/dispel information from their peers which may be wrong at times.
Sexually active children need sex information more than those not yet there because they could easily make mistakes. By developing open, honest and ongoing communication about responsibility, sex, and choice, parents can help their youngsters learn about sex in a healthy and positive manner.
